Mississippi became the twentieth state of the United States on December 10, 1817. Located in the southern region, it is bordered by Tennessee, Alabama, Louisiana, and the Mississippi River. Known as the “Magnolia State,” Mississippi has a rich history in agriculture, particularly cotton farming, and played a significant role in the Civil War and the civil rights movement. Its capital is Jackson, which is also its largest city.
