The Battle of Nashville took place on December 15-16, 1864, during the American Civil War. Fought in Nashville, Tennessee, it pitted Union forces under General George H. Thomas against the Confederate Army of Tennessee led by General John Bell Hood. The Union army launched a powerful, well-coordinated assault that shattered Hood’s weakened forces. The battle ended in a decisive Union victory and effectively destroyed the Confederate presence in Tennessee, marking one of the final major blows to the Confederacy.
