The Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur Wright, made the first successful powered airplane flight on December 17, 1903, in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Their aircraft, the Wright Flyer, flew for 12 seconds and covered 120 feet. This achievement marked the beginning of modern aviation and demonstrated that controlled, sustained flight was possible, changing transportation and technology forever.
