 cy due to a death in office. Before becoming president, Tyler had a long p
 olitical career, including serving as Governor of Virginia, a U.S. Congres
 sman, and Senator. His presidency was marked by significant events, includ
 ing the annexation of Texas, which led to tensions with Mexico and eventua
 lly the Mexican-American War. Tyler faced challenges within his own party,
  the Whigs, who were divided over his policies. After leaving office, he r
 eturned to Virginia, where he was later elected to the Confederate Congres
