Description:

John Paul Jones was a naval hero of the American Revolutionary War, often called the "Father of the American Navy." Born in Scotland on July 6, 1747, he joined the Continental Navy and became known for his daring sea battles against the British. His most famous victory came in 1779 aboard the "Bonhomme Richard", when he defeated the British warship HMS Serapis and declared, “I have not yet begun to fight!” Jones later served in the Russian Navy before retiring in France, where he died in 1792. He is remembered for his boldness, leadership, and contributions to U.S. naval history. His remains are interred in the chapel at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
