 esident, he held several public offices, including U.S. Senator and Minist
 er to Russia. As vice president, he supported many of Polk's expansionist 
 policies, including the annexation of Texas and the Mexican-American War. 
 Known for his strong Democratic Party loyalty, Dallas later served as U.S.
  Minister to Great Britain. He died in 1864 and is remembered for his role
  during a time of major U.S. territorial growth.</p>\n<p><img class="float
