 efore Jefferson became president. Her death deeply affected him, and he ne
 ver remarried. After her death, Thomas Jefferson was so grief-stricken tha
 t he reportedly destroyed all of their personal correspondence and her lik
 enesses. A silhouette is believed to be the only likeness remaining of Mar
