William Floyd was an Ame rican planter, politician, and a signer of the Declaration of Independence . Born on December 17, 1734, in Brookhaven, New York, he represented New Y ork in the Continental Congress during the American Revolution. Floyd supp orted independence from Britain and later served in the New York State Sen ate. He also helped manage his family’s estates and was active in local affairs. William Floyd died on August 4, 1821.
