 cated in a barn in Garrett, Virginia, where he had been hiding with his co
 -conspirator, David Herold. Union soldiers surrounded the barn, and after 
 a standoff, Booth was shot. Some reports suggest that Booth was shot by a 
 soldier named Boston Corbett, while others claim that Booth was fatally wo
 unded in a scuffle after being captured. He died a few hours later from hi
