Michigan is the 26th state to join the United States, admitted to the Union on January 26, 1837. Located in the Great Lakes region, it is the only state made up of two peninsulas and is bordered by four of the five Great Lakes. Michigan played a major role in American manufacturing, especially the automobile industry, and remains known for its natural resources, industry, and diverse economy.
