Indiana became the nineteenth state of the United States on December 11, 1816. Located in the Midwest, it is bordered by Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, and Illinois. Known as the “Hoosier State,” Indiana has a strong agricultural and industrial history. Its capital and largest city is Indianapolis, which is famous for hosting the Indianapolis 500 auto race.
