Julia Tyler (1820 - 1889) was the second wife of John Tyler, the 10th President of the United States. Born in New York City on May 4, 1820 as Julia Gardiner, she came from a wealthy family. Julia married John Tyler in 1844, while he was president, making her the First Lady from 1844 to 1845. She was 30 years younger than her husband and had a significant influence on his presidency, often accompanying him in public appearances and helping to manage the White House.

Julia Tyler was known for her charm, beauty, and social skills. As First Lady, she hosted numerous events and was admired for her elegance. After Tyler left the presidency, Julia and her family moved to a large plantation in Virginia, where they lived until the Civil War. She was a staunch supporter of the Confederacy during the war, and following John Tyler's death in 1862, she continued to manage the family estate.
