Barbara Bush was the wife of George H. W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States, and served as First Lady from 1989 to 1993. She was born on June 8, 1925, in New York City and married George H. W. Bush in 1945. Together, they had six children, including George W. Bush, who later became the 43rd president, and Jeb Bush, a former governor of Florida.
As First Lady, Barbara Bush was known for her advocacy of family literacy and education. She supported various charitable causes and was admired for her down-to-earth style, wit, and strong family values. Before becoming First Lady, she also served as Second Lady when her husband was Vice President under Ronald Reagan.
Barbara Bush remained active in public life after leaving the White House and continued to champion literacy through the Barbara Bush Foundation. She died on April 17, 2018, at the age of 92 in Houston, Texas.
