Anna Harrison |
Anna Harrison was the wife of William Henry Harrison, the 9th President of the United States, and the grandmother of Benjamin Harrison, the 23rd president. Born on July 25, 1775 in New Jersey, she married William Henry Harrison in 1795 and raised their large family, often managing their home while he pursued a military and political career. Although she became First Lady in 1841, she never lived in the White House because her husband died just one month after taking office. Anna Harrison holds the distinction of being the first First Lady to never serve in Washington, D.C. She died in 1864 at the age of 88.
