Caesar Rodney was an American lawyer and politician from Delaware, best known for his role in the American Revolution. Born on October 7, 1728, he served as a delegate to the Continental Congress and famously rode overnight to Philadelphia in 1776 to cast Delaware’s deciding vote for independence. Rodney also served as President (governor) of Delaware during the Revolutionary War and was active in organizing the state’s militia. He died in 1784, leaving a legacy as a dedicated patriot and signer of the Declaration of Independence.
