William Floyd was an American planter, politician, and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Born on December 17, 1734, in Brookhaven, New York, he represented New York in the Continental Congress during the American Revolution. Floyd supported independence from Britain and later served in the New York State Senate. He also helped manage his family’s estates and was active in local affairs. William Floyd died on August 4, 1821.
