Description:

The Invasion of Normandy, also known as D-Day, took place on June 6, 1944, during World War II. It was the largest amphibious military invasion in history and marked the beginning of the Allied effort to liberate Western Europe from Nazi control. Over 156,000 Allied troops, primarily from the United States, Britain, and Canada, landed on five beaches—Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword—along the Normandy coast of France.

The invasion involved extensive planning and deception to mislead the Germans about the location of the attack. Despite strong German defenses and heavy casualties, the Allies were able to establish a foothold in Normandy. The success of the invasion led to the eventual defeat of Nazi Germany and is considered a turning point in the war in Europe.
