Oklahoma, the forty-sixth state |
Oklahoma became the forty-sixth state of the United States on November 16, 1907. Located in the South Central region, it is known for its Native American heritage, wide plains, and strong agricultural and energy industries. The state’s capital and largest city is Oklahoma City. Before statehood, Oklahoma was Indian Territory, home to many tribes relocated from the eastern United States. Today, Oklahoma’s economy is driven by oil, natural gas, farming, and manufacturing, and its culture reflects a blend of Native American and pioneer traditions.
