Birth of the U.S. Army |
The United States Army was founded on June 14, 1775, by the Continental Congress to fight in the American Revolutionary War. It began as the Continental Army, led by General George Washington, and was created to unify the colonial militias against British rule. The Army played a key role in securing American independence and has since grown into one of the world’s most powerful military forces. June 14 is now celebrated as the Army’s birthday each year.
