Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson (1824 - 1863) was a Confederate general during the American Civil War, known for his skill, discipline, and bold battlefield tactics. Born on January 21, 1824, his nickname came from his steadfast defense at the First Battle of Bull Run. Jackson played a key role in several major Confederate victories before dying from complications after being wounded by friendly fire in 1863.
