George M. Dallas was the 11th Vice President of the United States, serving from 1845 to 1849 under President James K. Polk. Born in on July 10, 1792 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was a lawyer, diplomat, and politician. Before becoming vice president, he held several public offices, including U.S. Senator and Minister to Russia. As vice president, he supported many of Polk's expansionist policies, including the annexation of Texas and the Mexican-American War. Known for his strong Democratic Party loyalty, Dallas later served as U.S. Minister to Great Britain. He died in 1864 and is remembered for his role during a time of major U.S. territorial growth.
