Florence Harding |
Florence Harding was the First Lady of the United States from 1921 to 1923 as the wife of President Warren G. Harding. Born Florence Kling on August 15, 1860, in Marion, Ohio, she was a strong and politically active partner in her husband's career. Before becoming First Lady, she managed a newspaper, the "Marion Daily Star", which Warren Harding owned. As First Lady, she modernized the White House, supported veterans' rights, and was known for her openness to the press and the public. Her time in the White House was cut short by President Harding's sudden death in 1923. Florence Harding died on November 21, 1924.
