Caroline Lavinia Scott Harrison was the wife of Benjamin Harrison, the 23rd president of the United States, and served as First Lady from 1889 until her death in 1892. Born in Oxford, Ohio, on October1, 1832, she studied music, art, and literature at the Oxford Female Institute. As First Lady, she oversaw major White House renovations, including the installation of electricity and modernization of its facilities, while also working to preserve its historic furnishings. She was the first President General of the Daughters of the American Revolution and promoted arts and social causes. Caroline Harrison died of tuberculosis in the White House on October 25, 1892.
