Josiah Bartlett |
Josiah Bartlett was an American physician, statesman, and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. He was born on November 21, 1729, in Massachusetts and later moved to New Hampshire, where he became active in colonial politics. Bartlett served as a delegate to the Continental Congress and was the first to vote for independence after John Hancock. He later became the chief justice and the first governor of New Hampshire under its new state constitution. Bartlett died on May 19, 1795.
