Mary Todd Lincoln was the wife of Abraham Lincoln and served as First Lady of the United States from 1861 to 1865. She was born on December 13, 1818, in Lexington, Kentucky, into a prominent family. Intelligent and well-educated, she took an active interest in politics and supported her husband’s career. During the Civil War, she faced intense public scrutiny and personal tragedy, including the death of one of her sons. After President Lincoln’s assassination in 1865, she struggled with grief and health issues. She died on July 16, 1882.
