Lady Bird Johnson was the First Lady of the United States from 1963 to 1969, as the wife of President Lyndon B. Johnson. Born Claudia Alta Taylor on December 22, 1912, in Karnack, Texas, she was known for her advocacy of environmental beautification, conservation, and highway landscaping. Lady Bird Johnson also supported education and social programs, playing an active role in her husband’s presidency. She died on July 11, 2007.
