Clara Barton was an American nurse, teacher, and humanitarian, born on December 25, 1821, in North Oxford, Massachusetts. She is best known for founding the American Red Cross and providing medical care and supplies to soldiers during the Civil War. Barton dedicated her life to helping the sick and injured and responding to disasters both in the U.S. and abroad. She died on April 12, 1912.
